We understand that birthdays are an important day to every child. Our intent is to take time to honor each child on their birthday however, the classroom is not the setting for a birthday party. We ask that you do not bring sugary treats for birthday celebrations. First of all, it excludes any child who may have food allergies. Second, it takes a large chunk of time out of the academic day to pass out treats, eat them and clean up. Last, we understand that many parents are working hard to keep sugar to a minimum in their child’s diet and nutrition.

If your child would like to be recognized on their birthday at school, please let me know a few days ahead of time. Also, instead of food treats, please consider one of the following ideas:

  • Giving each child a “cool” pencil, eraser or sticker

  • Purchasing a book for the classroom library and using a book plate to honor your child’s birthday

  • Making up individual birthday bags with non-food novelty items

  • Make a book mark or other individual item for each child telling them it’s your birthday

Your ideas are welcome too... but please contact me first.
